About
Chicago native Dr. Aginah M. Muhammad is the Executive Director of the Council on Teacher Education. Dr. Muhammad is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Council on Teacher Education operations. She serves as the liaison between the University of Illinois Chicago and the Illinois State Board of Education and works collaboratively with the Deans of the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts, the College of Nursing and the Jane Addams College of Social Work to ensure ISBE compliance. Prior to Dr. Muhammad’s appointment as the Executive Director of CTE, she held an appointment as the inaugural director of the Office of First-Year Initiatives, taught courses as an adjunct faculty member at several Chicago higher education institutions, and held several administrative positions within Chicago Public Schools. Dr. Muhammad is a proud UIC alum and earned two degrees from the institution (BA, Criminal Justice ‘97 and MEd, Education Leadership ’99). She earned her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Ph.D.’12) and has been employed with UIC since 2013.
